Conservative British Daily Questions Israel Lobby’s Influence on UK Parliament

with 4 comments

With increasing talk of war with Iran, The Telegraph raises some pertinent questions about the influence of Britain’s Israel lobby:

In this uncertain climate, British parliamentarians must pick their chums more carefully. Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) and its Labour counterpart wield considerable financial clout and attract important members. Both Mr Blair and Gordon Brown joined LFI. While such links were once accepted without question, Mr Cameron and Ed Miliband should consider whether it is suitable any longer for senior figures to maintain affiliations that might attract suspicions of a conflict of interest.

  1. I noticed recently that planted questions were made from ‘friends of Israel’ in parliament to the foreign secretary, himself a ‘conservative friend of Israel’ that resulted in an embargo against Iran followed by the storming of the British Embassy in Tehran by Iranian students. How much longer do we have to be ruled by Israel? Isn’t it about time we rid ourselves of these career politicians who are wrecking our influence in the Middle East?

  2. Yes, provoking such crises is their modus operandi. See Jeff Gates’s Guilt By Association for a more detailed analysis.

  3. It may interest you to know that one of the MP’s who made not so much a question to Hague but a statement basically of what fiends they are in the Iranian government that they threaten the whole region of the Middle East was none other than the young MP who’s been in the media recently, MP, Aidan Burley. His statement to Hague would have pleased Israel and possibly the Jewish Chronicle who criticised Burley for a stag do in a French ski resort on a Nazi dress theme for fun in which he had hired a naff Nazi uniform for one one of the guests at the party in which he is now in very hot water over, even possibly facing arrest. At the time of his statement I witnessed in Parliament I thought was a bit odd as he was not a Conservative Friend of Israel? But after reading of recent revelations about the stag party it all become clear, he was grovelling to the Israel lobby to save his political skin. It’s fools like this in Westminster who can get us into a war.

  4. Very interesting. There’s often a back story like this one which helps explain such Israel-friendly questions or statements on the part of “our” public representatives. Thank you, Henry.
