The Passionate Attachment

America's entanglement with Israel

We are all cynics now?

with 6 comments

According to Nureddin Sabir, Editor of Redress Information & Analysis, all of us who opposed the NATO-backed “revolution” in Libya and the ongoing efforts by the democracy-promoting forces of Israel, the United States, Britain, France, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to destabilize Syria

are motivated not by some high-minded principle or anything to do with progressive ideology but by cynicism, petty personal agendas and ignorance.

Speaking of ignorance, Sabir’s list of websites who haven’t done enough to facilitate these Israeli-driven wars against two recalcitrant Arab states includes at least one very odd choice:

At least as far as Syria and Libya are concerned, some of the holy cows of the alternative media, websites such as Counterpunch, Countercurrents, Information Clearing House, AlterNet, Antiwar, Axis of Logic and Common Dreams have opted instead to take the side of the oppressors and against the Arab people – people who are seeking nothing more than the civil and political rights that are taken so much for granted in the West. Instead of providing reliable coverage of news that does not get reported or is under-reported in the mainstream media, these alternative media have turned into alternative, amateur versions of Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News.

Poor! Despite the trojan efforts of Jason Ditz et al. to promote the interventionist narrative of peaceful protesters being massacred by tyrannical regimes, it wasn’t enough to avert the wrath of Nureddin Sabir.

  1. Sabir’s claim that the US and NATO are “protecting the Libyan people from certain massacre” and “seeking to stop the Syrian regime from slaughtering its people” is a flat lie.

  2. Sabir is just wrong on almost every site he chose. They have all fallen into the trap of R2P with the possible exception of Axis of Logic. Perhaps they have allowed one or two instances of doubt to creep in amid the condemnations of Syrian “tyranny.”

Of course Fox News is no different either.

Sabir seems to be engaging in some sort of paranoid, preventive witch hunt.

  3. You are worse than cynics. You are amoral fascists. There’s no difference – not one iota – between you and the Zionist filth you claim to oppose. Shame on you. You have no humanity, no common decency. You have forfeited your right to speak on behalf of any freedom-seeking people, foremost the people of Palestine.

  5. Alice, I find it rather puzzling that you seem to believe that supporting Israeli-driven destabilizing wars against Arab countries qualifies one “to speak on behalf” of anyone (apart from the Foreign Ministry in Tel Aviv). If this were the case, the ideal spokesman for “freedom-seeking people, foremost the people of Palestine” would be someone like Joe Lieberman or Charles Krauthammer.

  6. I don’t understand where Alice is coming from. What does she mean by “freedom”? How does she imagine that peoples arrive at it?
