  1. This is a subtle gesture by Hollywood, and a response by co-optation to Ahmedinejad’s Hollywoodism conference. The Tehran bourgeoisie will be gratified by imperial recognition, and popular culture is placed above politics much as democracy promotion is presented as being above politics.

    It is remarkable that this is the first Iranian Oscar, considering Iran has had perhaps the best national cinema for the last 30 years.
