The Holocaust: Israel’s main ideological weapon for launching wars of aggression

“The irony is that the Nazi Holocaust has now become the main ideological weapon for launching wars of aggression,” Norman Finkelstein tells Yoav Shamir in Defamation, the Israeli filmmaker’s brilliant 2009 documentary on anti-Semitism. “Every time you want to launch a war of aggression, drag in the Nazi Holocaust.”

  1. I saw Defamation. Can’t recall NF’s comment but he is of course spot-on. Today EI tells of a play about Nazi persecution of Jews, produced for Israeli high school students, in which the students cheered the Nazis, identifying with the swaggering oppressors, not with the victims, who are derided in Israeli culture as “soap”, like “suckers”, from the (false) story about bodies being melted down for soap. The EI story begins with persecution of Israelis for commemorating the Nakba
