Israel’s Global Insecurity Industry

In a must-read op-ed at Al Jazeera English, Belén Fernández reviews a new report by the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN) entitled “Israel’s Worldwide Role in Repression.” Of the report that catalogues “the role of Israel’s government, its military, and related corporations and organisations in a global industry of violence and repression,” Fernández writes in part:

IJAN’s observation that Israel variously armed all three parties in Angola’s protracted civil war would seem to underscore the opportunistic nature of the Jewish state’s global contributions to violence – as would its collaboration in the state terror unleashed by the Argentine military junta in the 1970s, which incidentally disproportionately targeted Jewish residents of Argentina.

A similar theme was hinted at more recently in reports that an employee of Global CST – an Israeli private security company founded by the former head of the Operations Directorate of the Israeli army and contracted by the Colombian government to assist in the struggle against the anti-government Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and other enemies – had sought to sell classified Colombian Defence Ministry documents to the FARC itself.

In 2011, it was alleged that Global CST had also marketed its services to both the armed forces of Georgia as well as to the country’s breakaway republic of Abhkazia.

Concludes Fernández:

IJAN’s indictment of Israel’s “use [of] profits to further repress and displace Palestinians, developing still more deadly weapons in the process” would seem to underscore the implications of this winning homeland security formula for homelands worldwide.

And as I intimated in a January 2010 piece entitled “The Merchants of Fear: How Israel Profits from Homeland Insecurity,” Tel Aviv and its foreign agents have had a definite but even less widely acknowledged hand in creating and sustaining the global insecurity on which their winning formula rests.

  1. Excellent commentary. I might add, I am quite sure that I read that the Israelis (or rather, an Israeli security firm akin to their Blackwater) provided Qadafi with mercenaries to fight the resistance – the very resistance that we (the U.S., their supposed greatest ally) were supporting. What’s wrong with this picture? The duplicity is obvious. The fact is, the Isralies have no allies, only interests. And they are not identical to ours, as much as the Zionists would like to claim.

  2. Thank you, Lorraine. I completely agree with you about the duplicitous nature of Israeli alliances. However, I believe that mercenary story was disinformation designed to discredit Qaddafi among the Libyan people. As far as I remember, it first appeared in a Hebrew publication and was then picked up by Ma’an News Agency. It also crucially directed attention away from the fact the rebels were then being promoted by the French Zionist Bernard Henri-Levy. Just as they subsequently attempted regarding the unrest in Syria, Tel Aviv worked hard to conceal its role in pushing regime change in Libya. But if people had paid more attention to what its think tanks were up to, they would have been in no doubt as to whose side Israel was on.

  3. Thank you for correcting my misperception. I will attempt to research more about this issue (the misinformation campaign). My Lord, what a tangled web…

  4. Many years ago, the initials ABS started to appear on cars, vans, trucks and lorries. It stood for a system which would prevent a vehicle’s brakes from locking when the road it was travelling on was wet, icy, snowy, oily or just plain slippery. But what did ABS stand for? It stood for Anti-lock Braking System. As anyone who has given this any thought will have noticed, the key word in the description of the system is “lock”. It prevents the brakes from locking and causing an accident. It is an Anti-Lock Braking System, so the acronym should have been: ALBS. Not, as the acronym chosen for it could imply an: Anti Braking System.

That was muddled thinking on the part of some marketing people and it didn’t seem to bother anyone sufficiently for them to challenge the in-built absurdity.

This one will not bother too many people, either, I fear. The organization is:

    The International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network

And the acronym that has been chosen for it is: IJAN. Got it? I J A N

So here we go again. The acronym ignores the key word in the title of this organization in an attempt at skewing reality. It misses out Z for Zionist, but keeps J for Jew, because J for Jew is always used by THEM when accusing US of anti-Semitism. Never mind that this spurious accusation covers all people who speak Semitic languages and dialects, which, of course, should cover all Arabs which would include most Palestinians.

But THEY have clutched the anti-Semitism accusation to their bleeding hearts as their own, which signifies religious persecution specifically of THEM, The Chosen Ones who can do no wrong in the eyes of their own vicious “God” even though they can do a lot of wrong in the communities which they control.

This is what THEY do. Zionists have proved themselves to be quite legitimate targets for the outrage, contempt and disgust of most decent people. They are not steeped in the “mysteries” read: outright lies and superstitions contained in the so-called Holy Bible, whereas we all know that there are many liberal Jews who abhor the actions of Zionist Israelis particularly towards the Palestinians. But THEY have deliberately avoided that distinction and, mark my words, it will be used against US at every opportunity.

If any of US accuses anyone from the International Zionist Network [sic] of upholding the cruelty, lawlessness, murder, land theft, destruction of homes etc. of Zionist Israel against the Palestinians we will not be accused of taking that quite reasonable position.

We will be accused of being ANTI JEWISH.

  5. Would someone please explain to me what Israel has EVER done for this country (other than supply members of Congress and said members with cash) and why there is such an undying sense of duty to fawn over them. And don’t give me the old tired reasoning of “them being the only democracy in the Middle East”. So what, every time we have ever needed military assistance they always bow out because they don’t want to get involved in whatever war/action so the rest of the world doesn’t hate them more than they already do. They only take take take and never give back. So why do we seem to owe them billions and billions of dollars every year only to get nothing in return. WHY???????? When there is a crisis in this country I never see them being the first to offer aid or supplies. What is the deal? Please tell me!

  6. Israel doesn’t do things for others. She is a receiver, not a giver.
