  1. From my perspective, Israel would like nothing better than a Salifist state on its border. Not only would it threaten Lebanon and Hezbollah, but it would justify maintaining itself as a Jewish Sparta with a steady flow of weapons coming from Uncle Sugar while having “good reasons” to postpone dealing with the Palestinians (except for stealing more of their land) for the “duration.”
